Types of wedding rings

The big day is about to arrive and little by little steps are being closed in the list of wedding preparations. But there is a very important task to do and perhaps one of the most special: choosing wedding rings.

Wedding bands, or marriage rings, are symbolic pieces of jewelry that are exchanged between the bride and groom during a wedding ceremony as a symbol of commitment and love for each other. In Spain, these rings are generally worn on the ring finger of the right hand, but it is also common to see them on the left hand.

For this important moment between two people, there are different types of wedding rings that can be chosen, depending on the preferences of the couple and their budget. In this article we show you all the options.

What types of wedding rings exist?

Types of alliances according to design

The shape of the ring will not only respond to issues of aesthetics or trends, but comfort must also be taken into account when wearing it and that it is not annoying on a daily basis.

In this way, we can find the following types of alliances:

  • Half-round wedding rings: they are the most classic and also preferred by most brides and grooms. Their design is elegant and simple, which makes them timeless pieces. The interior of this alliance is flat, while the exterior has volume, resulting in maximum comfort when wearing them.
  • Almond wedding rings: both the outside and the inside are rounded and they are also very comfortable to wear. They are usually the favorite option of men.
  • Flat wedding rings: more modern than the previous ones, their sides are flat and uniform. They are also very versatile and comfortable to wear.

Types of alliances depending on the material

Wedding rings can be made of various materials, although the favorite of the couple and also the most traditional is 18-karat yellow gold. Here are some options:

  • Yellow gold wedding rings: they are usually made of 18-karat gold, a classic, resistant and durable piece of jewelry that is very easy to combine and maintain.
  • White gold wedding rings: an alternative to classic yellow gold, but without losing the elegance of the piece. If they also have diamonds, it makes them stand out significantly.
  • Silver wedding rings: silver wedding rings have become a very popular option thanks to their quality and price. The usual thing is to use 1st sterling silver in these jewelry.

Types of alliances according to the finish

Depending on the relief of the wedding ring, we can distinguish different finishes:

  • Polished wedding rings: it is the most common finish, smooth with a very beautiful mirror effect that provides a lot of light to the piece.
  • Matte wedding rings: unlike the previous ones, they lack shine and have a matte relief that can be highlighted by including stones in the design. Halfway between the matte and polished effect we can find the satin finish.
  • Textured wedding rings: their design contains different patterns that give relief to the wedding ring. Some of these finishes are brushed, hammered, ice effect or Florentine.

Types of alliances according to width

Although the most used width is between 3.5mm and 4.5mm, this measurement will depend on the design of the wedding ring itself and the taste of the person wearing it. In general, women tend to choose narrower designs and men opt for wider alliances.

Thus, we can find thin designs, with a minimalist trend, from around 1.5mm to others wider than 9mm.

Types of customization for wedding rings

Wedding rings must be to the taste of the couple, so they can be personalized by incorporating a precious stone to make it even more special. Typically, diamonds are chosen to include in wedding rings, but other gemstones can be chosen, such as emeralds, sapphires or rubies. Of course, the design must be suitable to incorporate these details.

On the other hand, it is also common to personalize wedding rings with a recording of the bride and groom's names, the date or some other special detail.
